2’s Program
The 2’s program is available for children who will turn 2 years old during the current year. Classes meet from 9:15am to 11:30am, offering options for two days (Tuesday/Thursday) and three days (Monday/Wednesday/Friday). Each classroom is staffed by a head teacher and an additional teacher. We maintain a maximum enrollment of 9 children in each class to ensure personalized attention and a nurturing environment.
The 2’s Curriculum
In the 2’s program, our focus is on providing children with opportunities to explore a wide range of materials and ideas through both self-directed play and organized, teacher-directed activities. We emphasize:
Language and social skills
Observation of nature and the world around us
Expressing one’s own ideas and feelings
Listening to and sharing with others
Independence with key age-appropriate skills (i.e. putting on jackets, hanging up backpacks)
Music and Spanish specials to help with enhancing skills and brain development
In the 2’s classes, we also begin to develop foundational math, number, and science skills. We approach these areas through games, class discussions, and sharing books and stories. Our curriculum fosters learning through shared experiences and observation.
A Typical Day in the 2’s
Upon arrival, children hang up their coats and backpacks in their cubbies (located in the hall). When entering the classroom, they sit on the rug for circle time, we sing the welcome song, discuss the schedule to see what the day holds and do a group activity (i.e. sorting). Each week is based around a theme such as transportation, holidays/season, animals, etc.
Next, children will select a learning station tailored to their interests. They can build with their favorite toys like Legos or Magna-Tiles, enjoy a story in our cozy book nook, or engage in imaginative play by dressing up or cooking in our pretend kitchen. Each day features an age-appropriate project aligned with the week’s theme, providing a wonderful opportunity for individual time with the teacher.
After free choice time and the daily project, we wash hands and have a snack. Snack time is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and engage in conversation. We practice the alphabet, colors, shapes and numbers as well as read a story. Following snack, we gather on the rug to read books independently.
We emphasize outdoor play in our special 2’s playground, which features pedal cars and age-appropriate play structures. On Tuesdays, we enjoy indoor play at Gymtime, a gymnasium-like setting upstairs, equipped with mats, teeter-totters, slides, and climbing equipment.
Our students participate in regular Music and Spanish, and we plan special events that provide opportunities for the children to share health, nature, and cultural experiences with one another and with other classes in the school.
